Recent studies have suggested that anti-depressant drugs may increase the ability of the adult brain to adapt to new demands. This study aims to investigate the effect of the anti-depressant drug Fluoxetine (Prozac) on learning of a visual task.
Participants will receive compensation for time taken to participate (petrol and/or groceries vouchers).
What is required from the participant?
The study involves coming to Grafton Campus regularly in a 5 week period, learning a vision task, and having the activity of your brain measured in a safe, non-invasive way. For 3 weeks you’ll take a tablet each day, which will be either a low dose of a common anti-depressant, or a placebo.
Criteria:
If you’re a righthanded healthy young man, with no history of mental illness, then you may be eligible to participate.

Q: How often do we need to come in?
A: You would need to come in for 14 sessions. The sessions are spread over 5 weeks, so some weeks you would only need to come in once, whereas other weeks you would need to come in more frequently.

Q: What are these vouchers for? Grocery shops? Westfields?
A: Vouchers can be used for groceries (almost all supermarkets, like westfields) and/or petrol vouchers (combination of these can be chosen, as long as the total is 600 dollars worth).

Q: How long is each session? and are there a range of time slots to fit around studies?
A: Testing sessions take place in Grafton campus. The sessions are either 12-2 PM or 1.15-3.15 PM (but 5 of the 14 sessions will take half an hour instead of 2 hours).
