INTERNATIONAL STUDY to PREDICT OPTIMISED TREATMENT -in DEPRESSION (iSPOT-D)

If you are 18-65 years old and already diagnosed with major depression or suspect you have depression and live in Auckland then you are invited to be part of an international study in depression.

Feeling Depressed?
If you believe you have depression you could be assessed and receive treatment as part of an international study to identify physical and psychological markers that predict treatment response to antidepressants.
The study involves
• Assessment by a specialist
• Taking antidepressant medication for at least 8 weeks
• Two visits (4-5hrs) for psychological testing and EEG studies
• Follow up phone calls
You may be able to participate it you are
• 18-65 years of age
• A primary English speaker

You have to let us know if you are currently on antidepressant and if you are, please let us know which drug/s. This is a confidential study and we do provide a high standard of care for participants.

What is required from the participant?

The purpose of the study is to predict response to treatment for depression by integrating genetic, biological and psychological factors. Our goal is to combine these measures to develop predictors of antidepressant response. These predictors can then be used to identify which patients will respond to a particular antidepressant. As a participant you would be required to take anti-depressant medication and you will be remunerated for your time and effort.

I would quite like to participate in this study but have tried venlafaxine before but it did not suit me. I did try it for a decent time period. Does this preclude me from participating?

Hello, thank you for your question. It is a randomized study and one of the study's exclusion criteria is if the subject has a known contraindication for the use of the intended study drugs: Escitalopram, Venlafaxine or Sertraline including previous failure at the highest recommended dose. Since, you did try Velafaxine and it did not suit you and, the chance is 33% you may be randomized on Venlafaxine , you may consider not taking part in the study.
