I am reasonably fit, go to gym 4 times a week, play tennis and road cycle about 100km a week yet I still periodically get severe back pain. Recently I have been to a doctor who sent me to a Phsio which did not help long term. I have been to a Chiropractor twice in the last two weeks and still no real relief. I thought it was our bed but that has been checked out, as I can go to work and work sort of normally with the odd twinge now and then, but at night I do not sleep well as I wake up with pain and find it real hard to get out of bed, hence why I thought it was the bed. The pain is on the right side low down opposite the 4th lumbar according to the doctor. I am taking Syntax at present. Any suggestions? posted by Swanie on 2009-11-05 11:35:43 |

Hi
having attended a doctor, a physio and a chiropractor you are in pretty good hand. It may be so many reasons accounting for your temporary spinal discomfort and it is impossible to give you any valuable advice without a proper examination.
Sorry for this.

I have been turned down for a back operation four times since Nov 2006 due to kidney and lung problems However my nerve is caught up in my lower spine causing hugh pain in my back and right leg My right leg has lost all strength I am now on prednisone to help increase my kidneys ( up from 14% to 23% ) and my lungs work well but only at 40% due to sarcoidosis. Have had over the last four years two injections into my discs and 6 MRI scans I am at present under Waikato hospital which has a renal unit as Rotorua Hospital will not operate I wear a belt during the day but at night I hardly sleep for the pain that i get What I need is a pain killer with no drastic side effects that will not upset my kidneys posted by Delyn08 on 2009-11-16 20:31:15 |

I suffered a fall at work last year, and an MRI showed that I have an annular tear low down in my back. I had physio and to no avail. My work treated me badly and in the end I had to leave due to being unable to continue working on the hard concrete floor. I have had so much pain with my injury and find it hard to walk far now due to pain. I have been told there is nothing that can be really done. How am I supposed to cope with this ongoing agonising pain. I take morphine when things are really bad. I use a swiss ball to lay on and roll which helps sometimes but I feel my life is ruined due to this pain. posted by suziq on 2009-11-18 18:44:58 |

There is always something that can be done. But it needn%u2019t be medical treatment. Sometimes it%u2019s just about your expectations. Maybe you should get back to your GP or medical practitioner and discuss your situation again. It%u2019s also about trust. Think positive. Thanks for registering in our study but due to your prolonged back pain you are not eligible.

Kia Ora, A couple of weeks ago I was at New World. I got out of my van to get some shopping. When I got all the shopping in the van , I jumped into to the van and I think I twisted to the side. I had a massive pain on the right side of my lower back. Felt like a nerve hitting my bone. Anyway I drove home painfully cause I had no choice. When I got home I couldn't get out of the van. My cousin had to help me out. Once I was standing up straight it was okay but then when I shifted my weight to my right leg the pain was electrifying. I needed help to get inside. Once I sat down, no pain. Only when I shifted my weight to the right side. For a day I was in bed resting and then after that the pain had gotten less and I was okay. Freaky!!! What do you suggest happened??? posted by uangakore on 2010-03-23 06:48:24 |

Hi, I had back pain about a month ago in the lower back. I was watching TV on my stomach on the bed and after an hour, I went to turn around and I couldn't. My back was painful and I couldn't get off the bed. The only way I could get up was I had to "slinky" off the bed and place a pillow under my stomach to curl my back which was the most excruciating pain ever. I had this back pain for 3 days but it slowly got better. I've never had back pain but now I can say I am safe to say, it is bloody sore!!!

Hello,
Back pain is like a natural thing that happens to me time after time. Often after bending down and picking up something heavy is sometimes the case causing my back pains to start but most of the time there is a slight twitch in the lower part of my back which i just cant understand sometimes why all of a sudden. The feeling is like a pinch, it gets worse especially after 2-3 days. Do you think something is wrong? posted by sinaofanoa on 2010-04-22 17:29:18 |

I started getting lower back pain on both sides about 3 weeks ago. i went to my G.P. as i thought i had a kidney infection. after several blood tests and a lower back and chest x ray everything came back clear but the pain did not get any better. i was put in hospital last Tuesday where i am currently undergoing ultra sounds scans and e.c.g tests to see why the pain has started. So far nothing has been found yet. Since the back pain started I have also started retaining water. the doctor believes that it could be a heart problem. Hi there,
I had a horse riding accident around 2006. In hospital doctors took an x-ray and told me I had a crushed vertebrae. They didn't give me any treatment, I was dis-charged from hospital the same day I went in. I had no physio and wasn't prescribed any pain killers. A few months later I would get sharp stabbing pain or slight paralysis when twisting or bending down. I thought it would go away so didn't see anyone about it, and it did. It's been off and on for the last few years, sometime staying for a few days, but then disappearing for months. As I've got older it seemed to go away comletely but earlier this year it came back so strongly I went to see the doctor. They looked on my file and told me there were no notes on my medical record of having a crushed vertebrae, just some back pain.
So, because I have no medical record of having the crushed vertebrae, but I have ongoing acute back pain, would I be eligible for this study? The pain does not occur for longer than 3 days at a time, then disappears for a few months. It usually appears when I twist or bend while doing simple house-hold chores (ie hanging out the washing) but not when I lift something heavy.

Hi, to be eligible for the study you need to have an acute onset of acute back pain and if the pain is recurrent as you have been describing then you need to have a 6 month period of being painfree. Regards posted by Acute low back pian study on 2010-04-29 19:50:06 |

According to my local GP I strained my lower back severly on Sunday just by lifting the grass catcher from the lawn mower to empty the grass clippings into the compost heap. I had sharp pains shoot down both of my legs to the point I couldn't stand. After resting for an hour I was able to get myself off to the doctor and recieve some pain relief. This happened to me back in June 2009 and according to my GP this may re-occur again in the future. It all depends on what I lift and how I lift. I excersise on a regular basis - walking approx. 25kls a week. I will take extreme caution over the next 4 weeks as I would hate to experience this pain again.
